Blue U10's Reach Final in Kettering

Steve Eason10 Aug 2018 - 09:14

Blues miss out in Final during extra-time with last kick of the game.

Deeping Rangers Blue U10's tournament journey continued with a trip to Weekley Rovers in Kettering.

It was a stifling hot day and one this team won't forget. After two tournaments of being sent finallists Blues would this time go one better.

Deeping got off to a great start winning the first three games without conceding a single goal. Fourth game ended 0-0 against a very strong Santos Panthers side. A further two victories mean't that the Blues would progress to semi final but had to go through a penalty shootout with Santos Panthers to decide who topped the group.

Both teams had finished on exactly the same points won, same goals scored and same goals conceded. Santos edged out the Blues on penalties meaning that Blues would play Kettering in the semi final.

Deeping Rangers Blue played some majestic football against Kettering and totally dominated the semi final with an emphatic 2-0 win.

Blues would then meet Santos Panthers in the Final who early beat Deeping Rangers Clarets 2-0 to secure their final berth.

The final started with the Blues dominating the first half and unlucky not to be in front at half time.

Second half saw Santos Panthers edge their way back into the game and it took a couple of wonderful saves from the Deeping keeper to keep the score level.

The game went into extra time and still both teams had cancelled each other out. It took until the last kick of the game to deny Deeping Blue for Santos to score the winner against the run of play.

Deeping Rangers Blue were fantastic this day and although deserved to win the tournament is wasn't meant to be.

Although a great achievement and now gone one better than in previous tournaments.

Big well done to all the players who played through extremely hot temperatures to play such wonderful football which at times had everyone enthralled.

The development work through the England DNA Foundation Phase Coaching has paid dividends and each player has progressed and benefitted from this.

Next stop Holbeach United Transitional Tournament on Sunday 2nd September.
